Paul O’Neill is an American former baseball right fielder who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was a member of the Cincinnati Reds (1985–1992) and the New York Yankees (1993–2001) baseball teams.
O’Neill hit 281 home runs, drove in 1,269 runs, had 2,107 hits in his career, and had a lifetime batting average of.288.
With a.359 hitting average, he won the American League batting title in 1994. He won the World Series five times and was a five-time All-Star (1991, 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1998).
O’Neill batted in 141 games in his first season with the Yankees. With 20 home runs and 75 RBIs, he batted 311 times.
O’Neill was picked to his second All-Star game after playing 103 games with a.359 batting average, 21 home runs, and 83 RBIs during the strike-shortened 1994 season.
When the players’ strike ended the season, O’Neill had won the batting title, and the Yankees lead the East division by six and a half games. He agreed to a four-year, $19 million deal.
O’Neill batted in 127 games for the Rangers in 1995. 300 batting average, 22 home runs, 96 RBIs, and an MLB-leading 25 double plays.
Despite winning the first two games of the division series against the Seattle Mariners, he led the Yankees to the postseason for the first time since 1981.
