Meet Rosie McDonald and Gerry McIlroy
Gerry McIlroy and Rosie McDonald are the parents of Rory McIlroy, a professional golfer who is also his mother and father.
His parents recognized the need of encouraging their child’s professional development from an early age. Gerry McIlroy is a talented golfer in his own right, having formerly competed at the scratch handicap level.
Early in his life, his father introduced him to the game of golf and began coaching him. McIlroy’s father worked various jobs in order to supplement his family’s finances and contribute to his son’s golf growth. His mother worked additional shifts at a 3M company in the neighbourhood.
He also has a responsibility to struggle hard and achieve his full potential. Rory McIlroy MBE is presently a professional golfer from Northern Ireland who competes on both the European and PGA Tours.
He was awarded the Order of Merit in 2013. He has won four major championships, including the 2011 U.S. Opens, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship, and 2014 PGA Championships.
He is also a four-time major champion. He is one of only three players in history to have won four major championships by the age of 25. The other two are Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
He has been nominated RTÉ Sports Person of the Year on two occasions, in recognition of his individual and team accomplishments.
