Shireen Abu Akleh was a popular journalist who worked as a reporter for the TV channel, Al Jazeera. She started working for Al Jazeera in 1997. She was of Palestinian-American descent.
Shireen was born in 1971 in Jerusalem. She was fatally killed on Wednesday 11 May 2022 whiles reporting a raid on Israel Defense Forces(IDF) in Jenin. The journalist was shot in the head by the IDF and was rushed to Ibn Sina Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her death was announced by the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Shireen had her secondary school education in Beit Hanina. When she completed, she first enrolled at the Jordan University of Science and Technology where she studied architecture. She later got a transfer to study print journalism at Yarmouk University in Jordan.
After she earned her bachelor’s degree, she moved to Palestine where she got employed to work for Radio Monte Carlo. She left radio in 1997 and started working as a reporter for Al Jazeera. She often reported on major events related to Palestine and also covered Israeli politics.
