Super Bowl LVI will be the 56th Super Bowl and the 52nd championship game in the modern era of the National Football League (NFL). It is the final game of the 2021 season and the first round of the NFL playoffs in 2021–22.

The game will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on February 13, 2022. It will be the Greater Los Angeles area’s ninth Super Bowl, with the most recent being Super Bowl XXVII, held at the Rose Bowl in 1993, and the first in the city of Inglewood. NBC will broadcast the game nationally.

No proposals were received for Super Bowl LVI, in contrast to prior Super Bowl bidding processes. In a meeting on May 24, 2016, the bids for Super Bowl LIII, Super Bowl LIV, and Super Bowl LV were all picked from the same pool of contenders. Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, and Tampa Bay were the four candidates for the three Super Bowls; Atlanta won Super Bowl LIII, Miami won Super Bowl LIV, and Los Angeles won Super Bowl LV (despite declining to bid on Super Bowl LIV and being ineligible for Super Bowl LIII).

Authorities revealed on May 18, 2017, that the Los Angeles stadium opening, which had been slated for the start of the 2019 season, has been postponed another year to 2020. As a consequence, the league re-granted Super Bowl LV to the lone remaining finalist, Tampa Bay, and awarded Super Bowl LVI to Los Angeles at the league’s owners’ meetings in Chicago on May 23, 2017.

Super Bowl LVI will be the first Super Bowl to be staged on the second Sunday in February as a result of the league increasing the regular season from 16 to 17 games.

The NFL has also stated that if COVID limitations in Los Angeles worsen by the time of the game, the game might be relocated to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which previously hosted Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
