Wanda Sykes is a well-known actress and comedian based in America who was born in Virginia in a town called Portsmouth to Parents Harry Ellsworth Sykes and Marion Louise Sykes.
Wanda’s family moved from Virginia to Maryland when she was in third grade so she ended up having her high school education in Maryland at Arundel High School.
When she graduated from high school, she continued at Hampton University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.
Wanda later started performing her stand-up comedy shows after quitting her job at the National Security. She then starred in comedy shows on stages and TV. In 2009, she became the host of her late-night talk show that was aired on Saturdays on Fox TV. The show was titled, The Wanda Sykes Show.
In May 2009, she became the first African American woman and the first LGBT person to get the role as a featured entertainer for the yearly White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The following year after the dinner, she was again chosen as a featured entertainer at Olivia Travel’s 40th anniversary Music & Comedy Festival in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
