Hwang Dong-hyuk produced the Netflix original series Squid Game, a survival drama set in South Korea.

Lee Jung-Jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-Joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-Su, Heo Sung-Tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung are all in the cast of the film.

456 contestants, many of whom are struggling financially, put their lives on the line to compete for an estimated $45.6 billion (US$38 million, €33 million, or GBP29 million as of transmission) by taking part in a series of lethal children’s games.

The name of the series is based on a popular Korean children’s game with the same name.

Hwang was inspired to come up with the idea because of his own early problems with poverty and the widening gap between the rich and the poor in South Korea.

Netflix became interested in the project around 2019 as part of their push to extend their foreign programming offers, even though he had written it in 2009 and was unable to find a production firm to fund it.

In 2021, Squid Game was released to worldwide critical acclaim and international attention. A total of 1.65 billion hours of viewing time were recorded in its first four weeks of release, making it Netflix’s most-watched series.

As the first Korean actors to win in those categories, O Yeong-su and Lee Jung-jae and HoYeon Jung have also received numerous awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for Lee and HoYeon.

The show was renewed for a second season in June 2022, and it is expected to premiere in late 2023 or early 2024.

What is the Hardest Game in Squid Game?

Sugar Honeycombs

Sugar Honeycombs, one of the most difficult games in Squid Game, frustrates players because they can’t rely on power, manipulation, or taking advantage of other players.

Patience is the key to surviving Round 2 of the tournament. Plus a ton of saliva, it turns out.

Individual tins open to reveal honeycombs in the shape of circles, triangles, stars, or umbrellas.

A needle is all the players have to work with to carve out the shapes without destroying their design if the shape doesn’t come out intact, the player is dead.

It can’t be that hard, can it? The main drawback is that the sugar honeycomb is brittle and easily breaks into shards.

Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) discovers that wetting the sugar honeycombs makes it simpler to carve out the shapes without breaking them, while most players use needles to create tiny incisions on the margins of each shape.
