Ketanji Brown Jackson is an American attorney who was born in September 1970 in Washington, D.C. She was raised in Miami, Florida, and had her high school education at the Miami Palmetto Senior High School located in Florida. Before she graduated from high school in 1988, she won the national oratory title at the National Catholic Forensic League Championships in New Orleans, a competition that is ranked as the second-largest high school debate tournament in the United States.
Ketanji furthered her education at Harvard University where she studied government and also took some classes in drama. She graduated from Harvard in 1992 after which she served as a law clerk to Judge Patti B. Saris of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts between 1996 and 1997.
From 2000 to 2002, Ketanji worked at the Boston-based law firm, Goodwin Procter, and then with Kenneth Feinberg at the law firm, now called Feinberg & Rozen LLP from 2002 to 2003. She served as an assistant special counsel to the United States Sentencing Commission from 2003 to 2005 and from 2005 to 2007, she was the assistant federal public defender in Washington, D.C., where she handled cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Ketanji was honoured on September 20, 2012, when she was nominated by Obama to serve as a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to the seat vacated by the then retiring Judge, Henry H. Kennedy Jr.

Ketanji has two daughters with husband Patrick Jackson. Her first daughter, Talia Jackson is a 21-year-old college girl and her second daughter, Leila Jackson is a 17-year-old high school student.
