Who Is Bob Newhart Wife Ginny Newhart?
Ginny Newhart is an American businesswoman and housewife who has been married to Bob Newhart, a stand-up comedian and actor, for more than 50 years.
She is also the daughter of actor Bill Quinn, who has appeared in films such as “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” and sitcoms like “All in the Family.”
While she does not work in the entertainment industry as her father and husband do, she has had a significant influence on her husband’s profession.
She is best known for creating the final episode of his CBS sitcom ‘Newhart,’ titled ‘Newhart:
The Last Newhart’ (1990), which depicted the series as a dream that psychologist Dr. Bob Hartley of ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ (1972) awoke from. In 1986 and 1988, she appeared on ‘Super Password’ as a celebrity contender.
She appeared in shows such as ‘It’s Your Bet’ (1970) and ‘Tattletales’ as herself (1975-76). Her kids have also worked as actors and production helpers in the entertainment industry.
Ginny Newhart was born Virginia ‘Ginnie’ Quinn in New York City, New York, to character actor Bill Quinn and his wife Mary Catherine Roden on December 9, 1940. Eileen Quinn and Mary Ellen Wire are her sisters.
Ginny Newhart, despite being the daughter of a film actor, had little interest in pursuing a career in film or television.
She used to babysit the children of her industry friends when she was younger. She has been a homemaker since her marriage to Bob Newhart in 1963.
During an interview with ‘People,’ she admitted that she sometimes felt insecure since she didn’t have a 9-5 job like Bob Newhart’s onscreen wives, Suzanne Pleshette and Mary Frann, who played Bob’s wives on ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ and ‘Newhart,’ respectively.
She was, nevertheless, eager to support his husband’s attempts and accompany him on his tours whenever he needed her. Her appearances on television became more frequent after her marriage.
Ginny Newhart Relationship With Bob Newhart
In Los Angeles in 1962, Ginny Newhart met her future husband, Bob Newhart, on a blind date set up by comedian Buddy Hackett.
She was babysitting Hackett’s kids at the time, and he informed her one day that he had met a young comic actor, and that “he’s Catholic, and you’re Catholic, and I believe maybe you could marry each other.”
Ginny, on the other hand, did not want to marry someone from show business, like her father, who did not receive a weekly wage.
Despite this, they eventually met at Hackett’s place, had dinner together, and played pool. On January 12, 1963, they were married.
Robert, Timothy, Jennifer, and Courtney are Ginny and Bob Newhart’s four children, whom they reared as Catholics. They have eight grandchildren as well.
Bob had to go out a lot during their long marriage to shoot for his films and TV series, while she took care of the kids in their Bel Air house.
She and the kids, on the other hand, frequently joined him on long summer performances in places like Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe nightclubs.
Even though she wouldn’t acknowledge it to him, she said in the interview that she respected him for being a good person and for the personal and professional choices he made.
