Christopher Pratt was a well known Canadian painter and printmaker known for his works including Boat in Sand in 1961 and Good Friday in 1973. He was born on December 9, 1935, in St. John’s, Newfoundland and died on June 5, 2022, at the age of 86 in his birth town in Canada.

His Alma mater is Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick 1953 where he studied pre-medicine. He also attended the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland between 1957 to 1959. He was made the curator in 1961 at a newly opened Memorial University Art Gallery in St. John’s.

He was there for almost three years and then left to focus on his painting. Christopher studied Fine Arts at Mount Allison University, his Alma mater and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1961. He was also a part of the Canadian government’s Stamp Design Advisory Committee and on the board of the Canada Council for the Arts from 1972 to 1981. 

He was honoured when he was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1973 and in 1983 he became a Companion of the Order.
