Glenn Pettway, who was wanted by police for fatally shooting his girlfriend last Saturday, committed himself after a dramatic confrontation with Tennessee cops in which he pointed a gun at a newborn, according to authorities.
Pettway was surrounded by scores of officers from the Jackson, Tenn., SWAT team, bomb squad, and investigations unit as they sought to persuade him to surrender Wednesday evening, according to Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley.
He said Pettway consented to hand over the youngster after many hours of negotiations. Pettway then ran into the house and fatally shot himself, according to Corley.
The gunshot halted a manhunt for Pettway, who was suspected of killing and shooting his girlfriend, Marisol Dumeng, 30, at her Knoll Place home while on a $1 million bond for a 2018 murder. A judge subsequently issued a protective order for Pettway to stay away from Dumeng.
On Wednesday, acting on a tip received by Bridgeport police that Pettway was hiding out in the western Tennessee city, U.S. Marshals, a Tennessee fugitive task force, and Jackson police converged on a home where Corley said Pettway was living with a young woman and her child.
Is Glenn Pettway Married?
Glenn was not married, but he was in a relationship with 30-year-old Marisol Dumeng, whom he allegedly shot.
