Mark Walter is an American businessman and the chief executive officer of Guggenheim Partners, a privately held global financial services firm with more than $310 billion in assets under management and headquarters in Chicago and New York. He is also the part-chairman of the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League Baseball franchise.
Walter grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. In 1996, he co-founded the Liberty Hampshire Company, LLC in Chicago with Steven E. Johnson.
He was a founding member of Guggenheim Partners, LLC in 2000. He is now the CEO of Guggenheim Partners, a global, diversified financial services organization with more than $260 billion in assets under administration, 2,300 employees, and 25 offices in six countries around the world.
On May 1, 2012, Walter assisted in the $2.15 billion purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers by Guggenheim Baseball Management, LLC, a private partnership created in 2011 to acquire the team.
Peter Guber, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Stan Kasten, Todd Boehly, and Bobby Patton are his partners at Guggenheim Baseball Management. In 2018, Billie Jean King and her companion Ilana Kloss became part of the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. Alan Smolinisky and Robert L. Plummer, both entrepreneurs, joined the ownership group in September 2019.
