Hagerty died on May 5 in Los Angeles at the age of 67, best known for his work on Friends and the HBO Max series Somebody Somewhere. At this time, the cause of his death is unknown.
Bridget Everett, who played Hagerty’s daughter on Somebody Somewhere, confirmed the news on Instagram with a heartfelt tribute.
“The family of Michael G. Hagerty confirmed his death yesterday in Los Angeles with tremendous sadness,” she tweeted on May 6.
“His love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life as a beloved character actor.
Mike’s beloved wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty, her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg survive him. He will be missed greatly.”
Mr. Treeger, the building superintendent on Friends, was perhaps Hagerty’s most well-known role.
Joey (Matt LeBlanc) reluctantly agreed to dance with him after Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Monica (Courteney Cox) were threatened with eviction in a season four episode titled “The One With the Ballroom Dancing.”
He also appeared in two seasons of Fox’s The George Carlin Show (1994–1995) and one season of HBO’s Lucky Louie (2006).
He was most recently seen in HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, in which he played a Kansas farmer trying to keep his family (including TV daughter Everett) and livelihood afloat.
