Phil Hellmuth is an American professional poker player who has won a record sixteen World Series of Poker bracelets.
Hellmuth won his first eleven bracelets in hold’em tournaments, including the 1989 WSOP main event.
In the $2,500 buy-in razz event in 2012, he won his first non-hold’em tournament. In 2015, he received his second razz bracelet. His most recent victory was in a non-hold’em tournament, and it was his third bracelet overall.
Hellmuth has made an outstanding start to this year’s season, cashed in five events and reaching four final tables in the first three months.
The $25,000 H.O.R.S.E., $10,000 Omaha eight-or-better, and $10,000 seven-card stud championships have all produced final-table finishes.
Hellmuth has positioned himself as a leading contender for the WSOP Player of the Year award as a result of his early success.
When asked if he would pursue the honor, Hellmuth highlighted that he has finished the second three times in the series, and went into great detail about how he nearly missed out each time in the final days.
