Graham Paul Thorpe, MBE is a former England and Surrey cricketer. He played in 100 Test matches as a left-handed middle-order batsman and slip fielder.

In August 1969, Thorpe was born in Farnham, Surrey, as the third and last of three sons.

Thorpe, who was born right-handed, adjusted his stance when he was six years old to make it more difficult for his two older brothers to get him out of the house and because his garden’s leg-side border was shorter for a left-hander.

Thorpe debuted for Surrey in 1988 and for England in 1993. In the second innings of his debut Test match against Australia at Trent Bridge, he hit a century (114 not out).

In 1998, he was selected one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year. In his century against Pakistan in Lahore in November 2000, Thorpe hit only one four.

There were also seven threes, 12 twos, and 51 singles. Before being removed for 118 runs off 301 balls, he blasted another boundary.

This is one of the fewest boundaries ever seen in a Test century. Thorpe, on the other hand, was a gifted striker:
