Terry Pegula is an American billionaire businessman and petroleum engineer. He is the owner of Pegula Sports and Entertainment which owns the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Pegula paid $189 million in February 2011 for Hockey Western New York LLC, the holding company that owned the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League.

Pegula’s purchase of the franchise, the First Niagara Center, and the construction of Harborcenter across the street immediately had a beneficial impact on players, fans, and alumni.

It was until the next decade that Buffalo Sabres had the longest active NHL playoff snub with a 281-354-94 record. The Pegulas have come under fire for interfering with the Sabres’ hockey operations, and this is not the first time.

Since 2013, the team has fired six head coaches and three general managers, as well as made other controversial moves including trading for Ryan O’Reilly and Jack Eichel, which have been blamed by both fans and critics.
