Jean-Louis Comolli Biography
Jean-Louis Comolli was a well-known film director and writer from France. Between the years 1966 and 1978, he served as the head editor of Cahiers du Cinéma.
His articles on Marxist cinema, such as Machines of the Visible (1971) and Technique and Ideology: Camera, Perspective, Depth of Field, had a significant impact (1971-2).
La Cecilia (1975), Buenaventura Durruti, anarquista (2000), and L’ombre rouge are some of the films he directed that brought him fame (1981).
In recent years, he has made a comeback to film theory, publishing shorter critical texts that have been collected in the anthologies “Voir et pouvoir” (2004) and “Corps et cadre” (2012). He has also published the monographs “Cinéma contre spectacle” (2009), “Cinéma mode d’emploi” (2015), and “Daech, le cinéma et la mort” (Daech, the Cinema, and Death) in recent years (2016).
