Mithali Dorai Raj is a popular name when it comes to Indian cricket. Before her retirement, she was the captain of the Indian women’s national cricket team. She was born on December 3, 1982, in Jodhpur in India. She grew up in India and learned to play cricket at the age of 10.
Mithali attended Keyes High School for Girls in Hyderabad and Kasturba Gandhi Junior College for Women in Secunderabad. Throughout her cricket career, she earned several national and international awards. Some of these awards include the Wisden Leading Woman Cricketer in the World in 2017 and the Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna in 2021.
In her cricket-playing journey, she was the only female player to have been in the position of a captain for more than one ICC ODI World Cup final. During India’s cricket series against New Zealand Women in 2019, she became the first woman to play in 200 ODI matches.
In July 2021 during the third WODI match against England, she was the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket and she went past Charlotte Edwards’ previous record of 10,273 runs. Mithali announced her retirement from all formats of international cricket in June 2022.
