Naoya Inoue is a Japanese professional boxer. He is a three-division world champion and currently a unified bantamweight world champion, having held the WBA (Super), IBF, Ring magazine titles since 2019, and the WBC title since June 2022.
On September 9, 2017, Inoue appeared at the StubHub Center as part of HBO Boxing After Dark’s “Superfly” program after his facile victory against Rodrguez.
The WBC junior bantamweight title rematch between González and Sor Rungvisai headlined the show. Additionally, it included a WBC eliminator between Carlos Cuadras and Juan Francisco Estrada, as well as Inoue’s first professional fight outside of Japan.
A bout against Rau’shee Warren in an IBF eliminator ended up replacing McJoe Arroyo as the original opponent for Inoue. Instead, Inoue will face Antonio Nieves (17-2-2-0, 9 knockouts).
Inoue successfully defended his WBO title for the sixth time, stopping Nieves in the sixth round. Inoue was unable to finish Nieves in the second round because he misread the 10-second warning for the bell and rushed back to his corner.
After a left hook to the body in round 5, Inoue was knocked out. When Inoue kept landing that left hook on the body to no use, Nieves walked away from the ring. Of the 407 punches he threw, Inoue landed 118, while Nieves landed 45. (22 percent ).
