Naoya Inoue is a Japanese professional boxer. He is a three-division world champion and currently a unified bantamweight world champion, having held the WBA (Super), IBF, Ring magazine titles since 2019, and the WBC title since June 2022.
The strike that knocked Narvaéz to the ground the first time inflicted an injury on Inoue. David Carmona and Warlito Parrenas, two of the WBO’s top-ranked contenders, will fight for the interim WBO light-heavyweight title.
After his recovery, Inoue would have the right face for the winner. It was a split draw after 12 rounds, however Inoue decided to fight Parrenas again on December 29, 2015, despite the result. Similar to Narváez, Parrenas was obliterated.
After Inoue had dropped Parrenas twice in the second round, the referee waved the fight off, giving Inoue the TKO victory. Inoue’s next opponent was Carmona, whom he faced in May 2016 but was forced to retire with a hand injury.
In the end, Inoue prevailed by a score of 118-109, 118–109, and 116–111. To be fair to Inoue, Ryoichi Taguchi was the first fighter to go the full distance with him before Carmona did.
Inoue faced Petchbarngborn Kokietgym in September of that year for the third time in his career. Kokietgym was knocked out in the 10th round after Inoue launched a barrage of blows that could not be parried.
