Sarma Melngailis is the former owner and co-founder of Pure Food and Wine and One Lucky Duck, both vegan raw food restaurants in New York City.

Sarma and her ex-boyfriend Matthew Kenney opened Commissary in 2001, but it closed in March 2003, after which she consulted for Jeffrey Chodorow’s China Grill Management.

With Chodorow and Kenney, Melngailis opened Pure Food and Wine in June 2004 as New York City’s first upscale crude food eatery.

Situated in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park area, the eatery was recorded two times in New York magazine’s “Best 100 Restaurants” and five years straight in Forbes magazine’s rundown of “Top pick New York Eateries.”

The threesome opened One Lucky Duck Juice and Takeaway, a focal point retail location connected to Pure Food and Wine.

OneLuckyDuck.com, which went live on the internet in 2005, is an online-based store for snacks ready and bundled from Pure Food and Wine, as well as fixings, skincare, supplements, books, attire, and home items, all connected with crude and natural residing.

A second One Lucky Duck area was open in New York City’s Chelsea Market from December 2009 through January 2015.
