Sheikh Khalifa was the second President of the United Arab Emirates. He became a ruler after succeeding his father on November 3, 2004.
Sheikh Khalifa had been the president until his passing in the early hours of today, May 13, 2022. Sheikh was the supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates army force and the chairman of the petroleum council in the 1980s.
He was born on 7th September 1948 at Qasr Al-Muwaiji, Al Ain in Abu Dhabi. He was the eldest son of his father Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and a graduate of the Royal Military academy in Sandhurst.
The Career of Sheikh Khalifa
During his father’s reign, he was appointed the Ruler Representative (Mayor) in the Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi and head of the courts representative in Al Ain. Since the country’s independence in 1971, Khalifa has taken many positions in the country since he was the eldest son of his father’s children and the crown prince. He had been the Prime Minister, Head of the Abu Dhabi cabinet under his father’s office and Minister of Defence.
In May 1976, he became the deputy commander of the UAE Armed forces under his father’s reign and also became the chairman of the Environmental research and wildlife Development Agency.

Sheikh Khalifa’s Cause of Death
There has been no cause of death given for the late president. But there are reports which show that he had suffered from a stroke a decade after he had been in office as the president. He had surgery following the ailment and did not perform some executive duties or make public appearances for some time.
There is currently a 40 days period of work suspension for government officials in Ministries, federal and local institutions and a 3-days work suspension for those in the private sector in UAE following the president’s passing.
