What Happened at Oakland Hills Country Club?
A substantial portion of the Oakland Hills Country Club’s clubhouse was damaged in a fire that broke out early on Thursday morning. Around 10 a.m., the fire department from Bloomfield Township and Southfield was contacted, and local reports say that every Bloomfield Township firefighter was on the site putting out the flames.
At 9:17 a.m., Bloomfield Township Fire Chief John LeRoy said, members of the clubhouse alerted firefighters to the presence of smoke.
Thermal imaging cameras and holes installed into the ceiling were used by firefighters to locate the attic fire. Detecting the source of the odor in such a vast structure proved challenging, LeRoy added. 110,000 square feet is the clubhouse’s floor area.
Memorabilia from national championships at Oakland Hills and artwork that dates back more than 100 years were kept in the clubhouse, which was constructed in 1922. According to early assessments, both of these antiques and the clubhouse’s core are at risk of being destroyed.
Oakland Hills club president Rick Palmer described the day as “a rough, tough day.” “It’s a terrible day for Oakland Hills, for the golf community, for our customers, and for our employees.
There’s a lot of background here. The good news is that no one was hurt and that everyone was able to escape the building safely.”
According to him, the building’s rear was “not recoverable.”
