The woman whose charming baby photograph became the iconic face of Gerber baby food over nine decades ago has died.
“Gerber is very grieved by the departure of Ann Turner Cook, the original Gerber infant, whose face was sketched to become the iconic Gerber logo more than 90 years ago,” the business said on Instagram.
“Her grin and expressive curiosity won hearts everywhere many years before she became an extraordinary mother, teacher, and writer, and she will continue to live on as a symbol for all newborns.” We send our heartfelt condolences to Ann’s family and everyone who knew her.”
Cook was 95 years old when he died. He was a teacher and novelist in later life. In response to an open call for faces to represent a new advertising campaign, a neighbor submitted a sketch of her to Gerber in 1928.
During a 2013 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Cook revealed, “I was probably around 3 years old my mum pointed to a baby food jar and said it was my picture.” “It was a nice thing,” she said.
