Derek Stingley Jr. (born June 20, 2001) is an American football cornerback for the National Football League’s Houston Texans (NFL). He attended LSU and was selected third overall by the Texans in the 2022 NFL Draft.
In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Stingley Jr. attended The Dunham School. He has had 27 career interceptions throughout his high school career. He was named the Louisiana Gatorade Football Player of the Year as a senior.
Rivals.com classified Stingley Jr. as a five-star prospect and the best overall talent in his class. He committed to play college football at Louisiana State University (LSU).
Stingley Jr. began his rookie year at LSU as a starter in 2019. As a rookie, he led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with six interceptions and 15 passes defended, and the Associated Press named him first-team All-SEC (AP).
He has also been named a consensus All-American by the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and USA Today. Stingley declared for the 2022 NFL Draft on January 6, 2022.
