Does Julia Garner Have a Southern Accent?
Julia Garner learned the Southern accent as a result of portraying the character Ruth Langmore in Ozark and Anna Sorokin in Inventing Anna series.
According to Julia Garner, the Ozark movie was the one in which she had the most difficult accent to master.
When I’m on Ozark, my tongue is drastically different from when I’m on Delvey. The shape of Anna’s tongue is a little flat. It almost has a heaviness and a heft to it. “Within three weeks, I had to radically alter the way I moved my tongue,” she explained.
However, all of the hard efforts spent honing Anna’s intonation paid off. For starters, it was vitally important to the real-life Anna Delvey, whom Garner paid a visit to while in prison.
According to Rhimes, Julia put a lot of effort into polishing Anna’s accent, and in the end, I believe that was one of the most important components in helping embrace this character.
Julia Garner was born on February 1, 1994, in New York City. She is best known for her starring role as Ruth Langmore in the Netflix crime drama Ozark (2017–present), for which she has garnered critical acclaim and won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2019 and 2020, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress Television in 2020.
