Philip Glass’ contemporary opera ‘Akhnaten’ has received the Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording in 2022.
Karen Kamensek, the recording’s conductor; performers J’Nai Bridges, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Zachary James, and Dsella Lárusdóttir; producer David Frost; The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; and The Metropolitan Opera Chorus receive the prize.
James (The Addams Family, South Pacific, Coram Boy) leads the ensemble as Amenhotep III, Akhnaten’s father.
Bartók: Bluebeard’s Castle (Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra); Janácek: Cunning Little Vixen (London Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Chorus, and LSO Discovery Voices); Little: Soldier Songs (The Opera Philadelphia Orchestra); and Poulenc: Dialogues des Carmélites were among the other candidates.

Philip Morris Glass is a pianist and composer from the United States who was born on January 31, 1937. He is widely considered one of the late twentieth century’s most significant composers.
Glass’s work has been linked to minimalism because of its use of repeating phrases and changing layers. Glass sees himself as a composer of “music with repeated structures,” which he has assisted in stylistically evolving.
