Luis Gil is a Dominican. He was born in Azua, Dominican Republic.
Luis Engel Gil is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who now plays for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). In 2021, he made his Major League Baseball debut.
An international free agent in 2015, Gil signed with the Minnesota Twins for a $90,000 signing bonus. He made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Twins, finishing 1–2 with a 4.63 ERA in 23+1/3 innings.
The Dominican Summer League Twins signed him for the 2017 season after he did not pitch there in 2016. He made 14 starts in the Dominican Summer League and went 0–2 with a 2.59 ERA.
Jake Cave was acquired by the Twins from the New York Yankees in exchange for Gil on March 16th, 2018. A total of 12 starts, he compiled a 2–3 record and a 1.96 ERA, with a total of 68 strikeouts, in those two teams.
It was announced in July that he had been promoted from the Tampa Tarpons, where he had been playing in 2019. Gil compiled a 5–5 record with a 2.72 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 96 innings over the course of twenty starts between the two teams.
Before being sent to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in June, Gil played his first season in 2021 with the Somerset Patriots. For the RailRiders, Gil and Reggie McClain and Stephen Ridings combined to pitch a no-hitter on July 21, 2014.
