Chad Green is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the New York Yankees (MLB). Howard and Sheena Green gave birth to Chad Keith Green on May 24, 1991, in Greenville, South Carolina. He grew up with a twin brother called Chase, who attended Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and played shortstop.
Chad Green has two older siblings: a sister named Lynsie and a brother named Blake. In Effingham, Illinois, he attended Effingham High School. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Chad Green in the 37th round of the 2010 MLB draft out of high school, but he did not sign with the team. Chad Green went on to play collegiate baseball for the Louisville Cardinals at the University of Louisville.
Green was drafted in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers. He made his professional debut with the GCL Tigers that year, and after two games, he was promoted to the Lakeland Flying Tigers, where he went 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched. In 23 starts with the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2014, he was 6-4 with a 3.11 ERA. He pitched for the Erie SeaWolves in 2015, posting a 5-14 record and a 5.93 ERA in 27 starts.
Green was traded to the New York Yankees from the Tampa Bay Rays in December 2015. On February 5, 2016, he was invited to spring training as a non-roster player. He began the season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
