What is the Status of Gleyber Torres?

Gleyber Torres was moved from shortstop to second base by New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone at the end of the season. Cashman said Tuesday that the decision was not based on a single incident.

In his first two seasons with the Yankees, Torres predominantly played second base in 2018 and 2019. Following Didi Gregorius leaving the team as a free agent after the 2018 season due to injury, he was switched to shortstop for the 2019 season.

As a shortstop, Torres tallied 18 errors, placing him third in the American League behind Toronto’s Bo Bichette with 24 and Texas’ Isiah Kiner-Faleno, who each had 19.

With just three weeks left in the regular season, Torres was shifted to second base on Sept. 13th.

With nine home runs and 51 RBIs, Torres’ batting average improved from.243 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, but it was still down from.278 with 38 home runs, and 90 RBIs, in 2019.

Will Gleyber Torres Bounce Back?

Gleyber Torres should not be given up on by the New York Yankees. There is too much promise in Torres for the Yankees to give up on him, according to MLB experts.

After a disastrous first season as an everyday shortstop, Gleyber Torres still has a bright future ahead of him as the Yankees’ go-to option moving forward.

Torres’ bat began to improve once the New York Mets eventually made the rational decision to move him back to second base.

With six RBIs in the final 19 games of the regular season, Torres resembled the promising young slugger who made two All-Star appearances and hit 62 home runs for the Yankees as a second baseman from 2018-19.
