Nick Paul Anderson is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Tampa Bay Rays (MLB). He was previously with the Miami Marlins. Anderson went to Brainerd High School, which is located in Brainerd, Minnesota.
He spent three years in college at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota (2009–2011). For his senior season in 2012, he transferred to NAIA Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota.
Anderson was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. [3] He did not sign with the Brewers and spent three seasons in the Frontier League, an independent baseball league. In 2013 and 2014, he was a member of the Rockford RiverHawks/Aviators, and in 2015, he was a member of the Frontier Greys.
The Minnesota Twins bought Anderson’s contract in August 2015. In 2015, he pitched in 9 games for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, putting up a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings. The Twins traded Anderson to the Miami Marlins for Brian Schales.
On November 20, 2018, the Marlins added him to their 40-man roster. On July 31, 2019, he was dealt with the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Jess Sánchez and Ryne Stanek (together with Trevor Richards).
Anderson had an internal brace procedure on his right elbow on October 27, 2021, to repair his ulnar collateral ligament. Anderson was expected to be out until the 2022 All-Star break as a result of the surgery, which was an alternative to Tommy John’s surgery.
