How Did Rays Get Shane Baz?

It was through trade that the Tampa Bay Rays acquired Shane Baz from the Pirates.

Baz was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays on August 14, 2018, as a player to be named later in a transaction in which the Pirates also sent Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows to the Rays in exchange for Chris Arche.

The Rays sent him to the Appalachian League’s Princeton Rays. While at Bristol and Princeton, Baz had a 4.47 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in 12 starts.

Before reporting to the Bowling Green Hot Rods in early May, Baz began the 2019 season in extended spring training.

Baz compiled a 3–2 record with a 2.99 ERA in 17 starts for Bowling Green, striking out 87 hitters in 81+1/3 innings. That season, he was drafted by Salt River Rafters to play in Arizona Fall League.

Baz was picked to compete in the All-Star Futures Game which took place in June 2021.

On September 20, 2021, Baz was promoted to the major leagues and made his debut at Tropicana Field. He tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits (both home runs) while striking out five against the Toronto Blue Jays.

On October 8, 2021, he started his first postseason game against the Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series.
