Where did Brendan McKay go to High School?
McKay was a student at the Blackhawk High School in Chippewa in Pennsylvania.
In addition to being a member of the varsity baseball team for all four seasons of his high school career, he also participated in one season of high school basketball while attending Blackhawk High.
His senior year, he went 72+1/3 innings without allowing a run to be scored on the board. He finished the season with an 8–1 record, a 0.56 earned run average (ERA), and 130 strikeouts.
At the conclusion of both his junior and senior years, McKay was named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.
While attending the University of Louisville to play college baseball, he was picked 34th overall by the San Diego Padres in 2014’s Major League Baseball draft.
As a freshman in 2015, McKay split time between the mound and the infield for the Cardinals, throwing and playing first base.
When McKay was done, he’d pitched in 20 games, starting 13. A 1.77 ERA, 117 Ks, and four saves helped him to a 9-3 record.
To put it another way: He had four home runs and 34 runs batted in throughout his 61 first-base appearances (.308/418/431). (RBI).
The John Olerud Award was given to him because of his two-way achievement. The Baseball America Freshman of the Year award went to McKay as well.
