Luis Fernando Patio, a Colombian professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball, was born on October 26, 1999. (MLB). He formerly played for the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball.
Patio became an international free agent on July 2, 2016, and signed with the San Diego Padres. He pitched for the Dominican Summer League Padres and the Arizona League Padres in 2017, going 4–2 with a 2.25 ERA in 13 games (12 starts).
Patio pitched in 17 starts for the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2018, posting a 6–3 record, 2.16 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP. He started the 2019 season with the Lake Elsinore Storm and was selected to play in the 2019 All-Star Futures Game.
In August, he became a member of the Amarillo Sod Poodles. The patio was 6–8 with a 2.57 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) for the two teams, striking out 123 batters in 94+23 innings.
Patio was dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays on December 29, 2020, along with Francisco Meja, Blake Hunt, and Cole Wilcox, for Blake Snell. He was named the 23rd best prospect in baseball by MLB.com at the time of the trade, and a top 10 prospect by Fangraphs.
