Luis Fernando Patiño is a Major League Baseball pitcher from Colombia who currently pitches for the Tampa Bay Rays. He formerly played for the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball.
Luis Patiño Scouting Report
On paper, Luis Patio is a high-velocity pitcher, which makes him appealing. His fastball averaged 96.7 miles per hour during his time with the Padres this year, and he can hit 99 miles per hour.
He is capable of landing his low-80s curveball for strikes, though it is currently more of a change-of-pace offering.
Patio signed for the team at a svelte 150 pounds, but his wiry athletic frame has grown considerably stronger since then.
His stuff, especially his velocity, has improved in lockstep with his physical gains, and he pitched in 2019 with a mid-90s fastball that reached 99 mph and stayed in the zone for long stretches.
Fast and agile, Patio’s lightning-quick arm extends the life of the heat source without detracting from his speed.
Right-handed hitters struggled mightily against Patio’s fastball-slider combination in 2019, going just.163/.259/.220.
Evaluators expect the young right-changeup, hander’s as well as his overall control, to continue to improve as he continues to refine his delivery and is forced to make adjustments against upper-level hitters.
