Sawamura was a baseball player for Chuo University in Tokyo.
From 2011 to 2020, Sawamura was a member of the Yomiuri Giants for nine seasons, missing the 2017 season due to a shoulder injury.
He was voted the Rookie of the Year in the Central League in 2011. He won MVP of the NPB All-Star Series’ inaugural game in 2013.
He pitched primarily as a starter for the Giants throughout his first four seasons with the team, but after 2014, he solely pitched as a reliever for them.
He made 36 and 37 save as a closer in 2015 and 2016, respectively. He had a 48–50 win-loss record with the Giants in nine seasons, with 74 saves.
Sawamura appeared in three Japan Series for the Giants, which are the NPB’s annual championship series. In-Game 2 of the 2001 World Series, he was the winning pitcher.
Over the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, the Giants won in six games.
In 2013, when the Giants were swept by the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in seven games, and in 2019, when the Giants were swept by the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in four games, he worked as a reliever.
Sawamura was traded to the Chiba Lotte Marines on September 8, 2020.
