Phillips Valdéz plays for the Boston Red Sox. Valdéz was claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox on February 23, 2020.
The Red Sox pitching staff has a lot of new faces this season. Unfortunately, the majority of the staff has failed thus far this season, as the Red Sox have gone 3-7 in their first ten games.
They have a 5.79 ERA as a club and have only had one quality start from the rotation. Despite their problems, the pitching staff has had some strong outings, particularly by Phillips Valdez.
Boston snagged the 30-year-old off waivers after Spring Training had already begun.
Last season, he made his main league debut for the Texas Rangers, pitching in 11 games with a 3.94 ERA. He also managed to strike out 18 batters in 16 innings of action during that time
Valdez was a top 25 prospect in the Washington Nationals’ system before joining the Rangers.
During his tenure in Washington, he, on the other hand, never lived up to the hype. Despite his struggles, Valdez is beginning to carve out a significant place in the Red Sox bullpen.
Valdez has participated in four games this season and has yet to allow a run. He’s pitched well, allowing only six hits and two walks in six innings.
The former top prospect has yet to allow a home run while keeping batters to a.217 average.
