Is Christian Vazquez Good?
Christian Vazquez was named one of the greatest all-around catchers in baseball by Red Sox manager Alex Cora in April. Vazquez had just hit home runs in back-to-back victories over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Christian Vazquez has only left the yard twice since starting the season with two home runs in his first six games.
Only six of the 135 batters who qualify for the batting title have a lower OPS. Christian Vazquez is even behind Dalbec (.655), whom the Red Sox are trying to get off the bench.
Christian Vazquez overcame a mediocre midsection of the shortened 2020 season to post a career-high.801 OPS. However, he has a proclivity for getting homer-happy, resulting in a large swing and sloppy flyouts.
Christian Vazquez is no longer the defender he once was. Christian Vazquez has nine passed balls and has only thrown out 21% of base stealers in the American League (12 for 57).
That’s down from a high of 52 percent as a rookie and a career-low of 30 percent the prior year.
