“He was receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital but indicated a desire to return to his home near Bangalore.
As a result, he was transported here, where he died at 1 a.m. last night,” said Khan’s aide and manager Raaj Kumar Tiwari.
“His entire family was present, including his brothers Sanjay and Akbar Khan,” Tiwari said.
Khan is survived by his actor son Fardeen Khan, daughter Laila, and estranged wife Sundari, who starred in blockbuster films like “Qurbani” and “Jaanbaaz” in the 1980s.
With the 1998 film Prem Aggan, he debuted his son Fardeen Khan’s career, but it was a box office flop. He produced and directed Janasheen in 2003, in which he also co-starred with his son Fardeen.
After an 11-year hiatus, he returned to acting in this picture, which also happened to be his final. He utilized a monkey and a lion in Janasheen, in addition to sports automobiles, in his flicks.
He last appeared in the comedy Welcome, which was released in 2007.
