Bowden Francis, a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, was born on April 22, 1996, in Toronto, Ontario. He’s ranked 28th among Major League Baseball’s top Blue Jays prospects for 2022.
He played college baseball at Chipola College in Marianna, Florida, and was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh round of the 2017 MLB draft.
He made his professional debut with the AZL Brewers, with an 8.10 ERA in four appearances.
In 2018, Francis appeared in 26 games for the Class-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Advanced-A Carolina Mudcats, going 7-10 with a 4.50 ERA between the two organizations.
The next year, Francis pitched for the Carolina Hurricanes and the Biloxi Shuckers of the Double-A Gulf Coast League, finishing 8-9 with a 3.97 ERA and 165 strikeouts over 1422/3 innings.
Since the minor league season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Francis did not play a game in 2020. At the end of May, Francis was promoted to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds from the Biloxi Blue Wahoos.
In 592/3 innings pitched over two levels, Francis was 7-3 with a 3.62 ERA and 65 strikeouts.
On July 6, 2021, the Toronto Blue Jays acquired Francis and Trevor Richards in exchange for Rowdy Tellez.
Harrison, Francis’ younger brother, was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB draft.
