Lucy Muthoni Kibaki served as First Lady of Kenya from 2002 until 2013 and was the wife of former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.
In 1936, Lucy Muthoni was born. Rev. John Kagai, a Presbyterian Church of East Africa pastor, and Rose Nyachomba, from Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County (previously Nyeri District in Central Province), Kenya, were her parents.
She attended Alliance Girls High School and then went on to train as a teacher, first at Kamwenja Teachers College and then at Kambui College in Kiambu, where she eventually became the principal.
In 1959, she met Mwai Kibaki. They married in 1961 after a two-year romance, and Lucy left her teaching job in 1963.
Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagai, and Tony Githinji were their four children. Mwai Kibaki Jnr, Sean Andrew, Rachael Muthoni, and others were her grandchildren. The Kenya Girl Guides Association has Kibaki as a sponsor.
Lucy was well-known for her advocacy for the underprivileged and crippled. She was the founder and chairwoman of the Organization of the 40 African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS.

After a brief stay at the Nairobi Hospital for chest problems, Kibaki died on April 26, 2016 at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London. She was 80 years old.
