Authorities in Lincoln, Nebraska responded to an incident Sunday evening where at least two people are dead and many others are believed to be injured after multiple vehicles crashed and rolled into a group of people who were pedestrians.
Two were declared dead at the scene and were believed to be occupants of the vehicles and 19 others have been hospitalized. The Lincoln Police Department said one of those hospitalized is in life-threatening conditions and the other eighteen are believed to be in a non-life-threatening situation at this time the police said.
On, Thursday, at 10:57 pm, officers responded to a personal injury crash . Police reported that an eastbound 2017 Ford F-250 pickup collided with a southbound 2018 Nissan Altima at 192nd and F streets. The Nissan caught fire instantly and two women in the car were declared dead at the scene.
Police identified the victims as 37-year-old Sarah Zimmerman and 38-year-old Amanda Schook, both were Gretna. Zimmerman was eight months pregnant. Both occupants were victims of one of the vehicles with those injured being pedestrians. Police have said that alcohol and high speed are being investigated as the major cause of the crash.
In a tweet, the LPD said the 0’Street between 48th and 56th Streets would be shut down in both directions for the next few hours and would be opened at 5 am today Monday.
