Born on September 26, 1995, in Guayubn, the Dominican Republic, Albert Emmanuel Abreu Diaz is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who now serves as a reliever for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Abreu signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in August 2013 after being released by the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2014, he made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Astros, where he posted a 3–2 record with a 2.78 earned run average (ERA) in 14 games while going 3–2 with a 2.78 ERA.
The Greeneville Astros signed him in 2015 and he went 2–3 with a 2.51 earned run average in three games. He began the 2016 season with the Quad Cities River Bandits, where he went 2–8 and posted a 3.50 earned run average before being promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks, where he went 1–0 with a 5.40 earned run average in three games.
In exchange for Brian McCann, the Houston Astros transferred Jose Abreu and Jorge Guzmán to the New York Yankees on November 17, 2016.
The Charleston RiverDogs, the Tampa Yankees, and the GCL Yankees were among the teams he pitched for in 2017, compiling a combined 2–3 record and 3.38 ERA in 53.1 innings pitched amongst the three organizations.
After the 2017 season, the Yankees signed him to a contract and added him to their 40-man roster. On August 8, 2020, Abreu made his Major League Baseball debut.
