Albert Pujols is a Dominican-American professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Born on January 16, 1980, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Albert is the only son of his parents. His father, Bienvenido Pujols, was a softball pitcher. He had been a pitcher in the minor leagues in the Dominican Republic until he turned alcoholic.
Pujols had his promotion to the major league and was to play for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was the main Cardinal newbie to have come to the All-Star game, since Luis Arroyo in 1955 and was consistently voted as the Rookie of the Year in the NL.
He was announced as the champ of the NL Silver Slugger Award for the third base position. Albert became the main major league player to have hit .300, more than 30 home runs, in his initial two seasons.
His team progressed to the 2002 NL Championship Series (NLCS) however lost to the San Francisco Giants. He hit his 100th grand slam in a win against the Dodgers in July 2003.
