Bohm, the son of Dan and Lisa Bohm, was born on August 3, 1996, in Omaha, Nebraska. Bohm was a power hitter for the Roncalli Catholic baseball club in Omaha during his high school years; in his last two seasons, he had hitting averages.533 and.526, respectively, and was chosen an All-Nebraska player by the Omaha World-Herald for both seasons.

Bohm won the Connie Mack World Series Home Run Derby and tied for fourth place in the Triple-A Home Run Derby in Werner Park in 2015, the summer following his senior year of high school.

Bohm began his collegiate baseball career at Wichita State by hitting a home run in his first at-bat. Bohm and outfielder Greyson Jenista earned the nickname “The Bash Brothers” from their teammates during their collegiate days, a reference to their contrasting offensive talents.

Bohm was frequently the third batter in the lineup, behind lead-off hitter Luke Ritter and Jenista. Bohm batted.303 as a rookie in 2016, with six home runs and 30 runs batted in (RBIs), earning him first-team Freshman All-American accolades from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

He played with the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) that summer when he appeared in the CPL All-Star Game and beat Dillon Stewart in the home run derby.
