Since 2021, Angela Rayner has been Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office, and Shadow Secretary of State for the Future of Work, as well as Shadow First Secretary of State, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
Rayner was born in Stockport and attended Avondale School, a public high school. She dropped out of school at the age of 16 while pregnant and with no qualifications.
She went on to study social work and finally became a Unison trade union representative, during which time she joined the Labour Party. Rayner was chosen to run for Ashton-under-Lyne in 2014 and won the seat in the 2015 general election.
Rayner worked as a care worker for Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council for a number of years after graduating from college. She was also elected as a Unison trade union representative at this time.
She went on to become the convenor of Unison North West, the union’s highest-ranking official in the region. In 2012, The Guardian published a comprehensive profile of Rayner as part of an article about the working life of a trade union officer.
Who is Angela Rayner’s Husband?
Angela is married to Mark Rayner. In 2010, Angela, whose maiden name was Bowen, married her husband Mark. Angela had her first kid, Ryan, when she was 16 years old, and Mark became his stepfather. They are the parents of two children. Charlie, their firstborn, was born at 23 weeks and is legally blind.
Jimmy, the couple’s second son, was born later. Mark is the stepfather of Angela’s firstborn, Ryan, whom she had when she was 16 and about whom she previously said she “felt useless.” At the age of 37, Angela became a grandmother and adopted the moniker “Grangela.”
Mark, his wife Angela, and their children live in Ashton-under-Lyne, where he works as a Unison official. He offered steadiness to Angela’s chaotic life, she said in an interview that, Mark has taken a step back from his job to support her career, and he handles a lot of the childcare.
