Anthony Silfredo Castro is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a member of the Detroit Tigers in the past.
Castro joined as an international free agent with the Detroit Tigers in July 2011 and spent all of 2012 and 2013 with the VSL Tigers.
He pitched for the GCL Tigers in 2014, with a 6–3 record and 4.10 ERA in thirteen games with twelve starts.
He missed all of 2015 due to Tommy John’s surgery and spent 2016 with the GCL Tigers before making his full-season Tigers debut in 2017 with the West Michigan Whitecaps.
As a starter, he had a 10–6 record with a 2.49 ERA, allowing opponents to hit only.226 against him.
With the Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2018, he had a 9–4 record, 2.93 ERA, and a career-high 101 strikeouts.
He received a two-week call-up to the AA Erie SeaWolves that season when he started three games and returned to Lakeland with an 8.10 ERA and a.229 batting average against him.
Castro will begin the 2019 season with Erie and throw out of the bullpen. After four appearances, he’d be promoted to the starting lineup.
He rose to prominence within the Tigers organization after holding opponents to a career-low.207 batting average against, earning a position in MLB.com’s top-twenty Tigers prospects for the mid-season update.
