Following his waiver claim, the Toronto Blue Jays grabbed Anthony Castro, a right-handed international signing from years before.

In order to free roster space, the management thought he may be waived. The Tigers are said to be interested in adding a player in the upcoming Rule 5 draft, which will take place later this week.

The 40-man roster will be reduced to 39 once Castro is waived, allowing them to make a decision.

Castro is a right-handed pitcher who overcame obstacles on his way to the majors. He has spent eight seasons in the minor league system after signing as an international free agent at a young age.

He has recovered from an injury that kept him out for the entire 2015 season. But the hard-throwing right-hander has bounced back and fought his way to the majors.

Control and constantly finding the zone are two of Castro’s biggest challenges. He’s a hard-throwing pitcher who can reach the mid 90s, but he’ll need to work on his control if he wants to pitch in the big leagues consistently.

He also has a  mid-80s changeup. The slider/slurve, which he utilizes to encourage the swing and miss, is his go-to breaking ball.

The movement on that pitch is considerably better, but his inability to place pitches is a recurring one.
