Eric Mercury was a Canadian musician, singer, and composer. He was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario into a family of musicians.
Mercury recorded his debut solo collection, Electric Black Man, in 1969, and it was delivered the next year. From Village Voice pundit Robert Christgau: “Mercury is a genuinely impressive vocalist.
Perhaps some time or another he’ll put out a genuinely impressive collection.” Mercury followed that collection with Funky Sounds Nurtured in the Fertile Soil of Memphis That Smell of Rock (1972), Love Is Taking Over (1973), Eric Mercury (1975), and Gimme A Call Sometime (1981).
Mercury composed material for different craftsmen, for example, Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway for whom he additionally delivered.
