Following the passing of former Northampton Town footballer Freddy Hall, tributes have poured in. According to accounts, Hall died in an automobile accident in his home country of Bermuda. The event is said to have occurred on Sunday. Hall was just 37 years old.
Hall, a goalkeeper, played the 2011-12 season with Northampton in League Two, appearing in three games for the Cobblers. He would eventually play for Chester, Oxford City, and AFC Telford before winning the Irish First Division with Limerick.
He returned to Bermuda in 2018, and during his career, he earned 11 international caps for his country, appearing in various World Cup qualification games.
On Tuesday, Northampton Town’s website offered a tribute, writing, “Cobblers Past and Northampton Town Football Club are profoundly grieved to discover the demise of former goalkeeper Freddy Hall, aged just 37.
“Freddy attended Boston College before transferring to Quinnipiac University in 2006. He was the NCAA Division One men’s team saves percentage and saves per game leader, earning two NCAA statistics honors. In addition, he was named one of ESPN Soccernet’s top ten goalkeepers of 2010. Freddy was given a trial with Charlton in 2009, but he chose to finish his studies instead, finishing in May 2010.
“After his mentors, Clyde Best and Paul Scopes organized the trials, he was offered trials with Plymouth in July 2010. He took part in a few pre-season friendlies but was not signed. Freddy played three times for Northampton Town in the 2011/12 season.
Hall made his Cobblers debut on 7 January 2012, away at Morecombe, when new recruit Shane Higgs damaged his Achilles tendon in training. Hall went on to play for Oxford City and AFC Telford after leaving Northampton Town. At this difficult moment, our sympathies are with Freddy’s family and friends.”
