Gleyber David Torres Castro is a Venezuelan professional baseball shortstop and second baseman for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He made his MLB debut on April 22, 2018.
Born on December 13, 1996 (age 25 years), in Caracas, Venezuela, Gleyber is said to have started playing baseball at the age of four as a center fielder, catcher, pitcher, and eventually shortstop.
Torres signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2013 for a $1.7 million signing bonus.
He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Arizona Cubs of the Rookie-level Arizona League.
In 2021, Torres had a .259 AVG, .331 OBP, .366 SLG, and a .697 OPS across a total of 459 at bats. He had 9 homers and 51 RBI as well.
